Play directly in your browser with no downloads or account required. Minesweeper Classic loads quickly, remembers your last difficulty, and works across modern desktop and mobile browsers.

Classic number-based deduction

Use the numbers around each tile to work out where mines are hidden and which squares are safe, just like in the original Windows version.

Three authentic difficulty presets

Beginner (9×9, 10 mines), Intermediate (16×16, 40 mines), and Expert (16×30, 99 mines) match the original Windows Minesweeper settings, including mine density and board size.

Responsive, device-friendly design

The classic grid scales smoothly across resolutions, supports touch controls, and remains crisp even when zoomed in for precise clicking or chording.

How to Play Minesweeper Classic

Learn the core rules, objective, and difficulty options that define traditional Minesweeper gameplay.

1

1. Understand the objective

Reveal every safe tile without clicking a mine to clear the board and win.

2

2. Read the number clues and use your first safe click

Each number shows how many mines touch that tile, helping you decide which neighboring squares are safe or dangerous.

3

3. Flag mines and chord for speed

Flag confirmed mines, then double‑click satisfied numbers to reveal all remaining adjacent tiles at once.

4

4. Choose the right difficulty

Start on Beginner, then move to Intermediate and Expert as you master common patterns and edge shapes.

Minesweeper Classic Strategies & Patterns

Improve at Minesweeper Classic by mastering common patterns, efficient chording, and basic probability.

Basic edge patterns

Learn classic shapes such as 1-1, 1-2-1, and 1-2-2-1 along edges and corners. These repeat constantly and often tell you exactly which tiles are safe or mined.

Use corners to force moves

Corner numbers with values like 1 or 2 frequently create forced placements where mine locations can be determined with no guessing.

Chord for speed

When a revealed number has the correct number of flags around it, double-click or middle-click that number to chord and automatically reveal all remaining adjacent tiles.

Apply probability when logic runs out

In late-game 50/50 situations, count remaining mines and unopened tiles in each region to estimate which move is statistically safer instead of guessing blindly.

Avoid common mistakes

Do not flag tiles on pure hunches, avoid ignoring satisfied numbers you can chord, and always double-check edge patterns before committing to risky clicks.
